Advice, care and life of your Sweeek sofa
Have you just purchased a Sweeek sofa or are you still undecided ? Here is everything you need to know about receiving, comfort and caring for your new living room companion.
📦 1. Delivery and unpacking : The "compressed" phenomenon
My sofa looks crumpled or the cushions are flat when unpacked. Is this normal ?
YES, this is completely normal! To optimise transport and reduce our carbon footprint, some of our sofas and cushions are vacuum-packed or compressed in their boxes.
- The immediate effect : when opened, the foam may appear thin and the fabric creased.
- The solution : allow time for the product to regain its shape (approximately 24 to 48 hours).
- Pro tip : don't hesitate to "massage" the cushions vigorously and tap them (as if you were fluffing up a pillow) to get air into the foam. For creases in the fabric, a steamer held at a reasonable distance works wonders!
☁️ 2. Density and comfort : understanding your seat
What does density (kg/m3) mean ?
Density indicates the weight of the foam per cubic metre, which mainly determines its longevity, not its firmness.
- The seat : our sofas generally offer a density between 24 kg/m³ and 28 kg/m³ (comfortable standard) or more for high-end models.
- The backrest : it is often less dense (or filled with fibres/flakes) to offer a softer and more enveloping feel.
- Is my sofa too hard ? A new sofa is always firmer in the first few days. This is normal: the foam is new and taut. It will soften slightly with use and reach its optimal comfort level after a few weeks.
⏳ 3. Product life : normal wear and tear of foam
My cushions are sagging or the fabric is creasing. Is this a defect ?
No, this is what is known as normal wear and tear of the filling. A sofa is a "living" product that is subjected to the weight of the body on a daily basis.
- Settling : a slight loss of volume (approximately 10 to 15 %) or softening of the foam is inevitable over time.
- Fabric puckering : as the foam softens, the fabric may stretch slightly and form slight creases (puckering).
💡 How can you limit this effect ?
- Switch places : if possible, change places regularly so that you don't always wear down the same area.
- Fluff up the cushions : give the back cushions some volume by tapping them regularly to redistribute the fibres or foam inside.
🧹 4. Care and cleaning
How do I clean my fabric or velvet sofa ?
- Dust : vacuum regularly on a low setting using a soft brush attachment.
- Stains : act quickly! Blot (do not rub) with a clean, absorbent cloth. Use a specific upholstery cleaner (always test on a hidden area first).
- Removable covers ? Check the label. If the covers are machine washable, use a delicate/cold cycle and avoid the tumble dryer to prevent the fabric from shrinking.
