Alignment problem during assembly

For a good assembly of the seat, the screws must not be too tight on one side, otherwise the opposite screw thread will be difficult to use. Therefore, you will have to tighten the screw on one side and then on the other until the furniture is completely assembled. You can then tighten the screws gradually on both sides.

Discolouration of the cushions is inevitable and can accelerate if they are stored outside, exposed to UV rays, when not in use.

The rattan on my garden furniture has broken.

Polyrattan is made of plastic and can be sensitive to variations in temperature.

During the day, when it is hotter, depending on your location and how exposed your garden furniture is, the resin can relax/loosen during the day and return to its original shape in the evening.

This movement, day after day, can lead to the rattan becoming brittle. This phenomenon is even more pronounced on table sets, as the glass top is permanently in place and can amplify the effects of the UV rays. This type of breakage is not covered by the warranty but we often have spare parts available for sale.

WHY DO WE PROTECT OUR GARDEN FURNITURE OVER WINTER?

Garden furniture is designed for the outdoors, so you might think that leaving it outside all year round would not be a problem. Well, think again! Like us, furniture is not very resistant to frost, cold and humidity. The strength of furniture depends on the material it is made of, as some are stronger than others. But in any case, it must be maintained and protected. The secret to having beautiful furniture year after year is to take good care of it. 

STEP 1: FABRIC CARE

Before you start cleaning your furniture, you need to take care of the textile parts. Remove the cushion covers and the covers of the deckchairs to clean them. We recommend that you dry clean the cushions. Finally, store them in a plastic cover and protect them from moisture. 

STEP 2: CLEANING YOUR FURNITURE

Classic wooden furniture: Simply clean with a hard brush. Above all, don't forget the feet that spend time in the ground or in the grass.

Teak and exotic wood furniture: The good news is that this wood is very resistant to moisture. However, UV rays and the weather will cause it to turn grey in a natural way. To reduce this effect, teak or linseed oil should be used. Simply apply it with a brush or cotton wick and in a few moments the wood will be nourished. To obtain a beautiful satin colour, finish by polishing. A stubborn stain? Clean with water and a light detergent. Rinse with clear water, sand with a sanding paper and let dry. You can then apply a little oil to the cleaned area. Furniture made of exotic acacia or teak wood is resistant to temperature variations. It can therefore be left outside, but its colour start to grey. It is a matter of personal preference! 

Rattan furniture: Start by wiping with a sponge or soft brush and soapy water. If this is not enough, there are special cleaners available: for example Durieu Net-trol or a renovation polish. 

Plastic furniture: Plastic furniture is very easy to clean. It will not be damaged by moisture and can therefore be left outside in winter. However, it is advisable to put it under cover if you can, as UV rays accelerate the ageing of plastic.  The top of the table could therefore become dull over time. In addition, frost could weaken it. Washing plastic furniture is as simple as a little warm water and soap. White plastic furniture can turn yellow over time. To give it its shine back, apply a special product to clean and renovate plastic. Do you want to give it a boost or change its look? Don't hesitate to repaint it in vibrant colours with plastic or PVC paint. 

Aluminium furniture: It is designed to resist rust but it can be stained. Soapy water may be sufficient for regular maintenance but if the stain is very ingrained, alcoholic window cleaner and lemon juice are very effective. 

Wrought iron furniture: Its maintenance is very fast, you need: A soft brush to remove dust and an anti-rust paint to protect it from rust. 

STEP 3: PROTECT YOUR FURNITURE 

Under cover

Ideally, store your furniture in a garden shed, garage or cellar where there is no humidity. Even indoors, it is advisable to protect it from dust with a blanket and to raise it so that the feet are not in contact with the ground. 

Plastic sheeting

You may not have a shelter to store your furniture. In this case, a plastic sheet can do the trick. You just need to make sure that the air circulates so that there is no mold.  If you live in a windy area, be careful that it doesn't blow away. 

Protective cover

Better than plastic sheeting is a protective cover specially designed for garden furniture. It is strong, water-repellent, sometimes waterproof, UV-resistant and can be treated against bacteria. In addition, it often has a fastening system. Covers come in different qualities. Low quality covers can tear more easily and facilitate the growth of mold. 

When the sun comes back out, all you have to do is put the furniture in your garden and enjoy the sun. For exotic wood furniture, don't forget to lightly sand and nourish it with linseed oil before use.
